Ken Willicombe, local with a soft spot for the environment
Fall, Spring, Summer, Winter

Ken is a born and raised Owen Sounder, only leaving the area to complete a Humber College Community & Justice program. Once done college and after spending two and half years away, he was given the choice to return to the area and jumped at the opportunity. When asked why he returned, it was easy to see his love for this City. “There is no other community like Owen Sound,” Ken said excitedly. He has a passion for the outdoors and the water. The community is kind and caring, and “You really have to appreciate how nice it is here,” Ken followed.

We spoke briefly about Toronto, his home for those years. While the prospect of a concert or party still had a small draw, he would give it up again for the slower pace and the kind people of our community. “It’s so busy there,” Ken spoke about Toronto. “Everyone is always in a rush.” We traded horror stories of navigating the highway system in the GTA versus our commutes that take only minutes in Owen Sound.

When asked why Ken jumped at the chance to take on the EV Charging sponsorship, he said it was not only a good location, but the prospect of sponsoring something that he saw as the future of the automotive industry and good for our environment really stuck out to him.

Ken officially started his career in Real Estate in late 2020. The world was obviously a different place then, but his love for the real estate market was nothing new. He’s always had his eyes on housing prices and homes in general. It was his then-girlfriend, now fiancé, who made the nudge to get him to focus on something he already loved. Ken and his fiancé will be married in late September, celebrating their commitment right here in Owen Sound.

So why has Ken hung up his license with Sutton Sound Realty Inc.? “For the comforting and supportive atmosphere and the fit,” Ken commented.  We asked Ken what advice he would give to a person considering a career in Real Estate, and he was quick to reply, “Don’t give up. Quiet times should be used as an opportunity to continue learning and to ask questions whenever possible.”

Outside of Real Estate, Ken spends his time in nature with his daughter Scarlett and dog Sophie, swimming and playing hockey whenever the opportunity arises. He spends time working with Bluewater Youth & Adult Services and speaks to a great love of supporting this community’s youth.  In the future he sees his business growing as well as his family and has plans to upgrade to a larger home to support that growing family. Ken never plans to leave the area again and has put down his forever roots in Owen Sound.

Finally, we asked what we, as the River District, have started to ask during all our conversations. Why do you, as a local, love it here? Ken replied, “Owen Sound has a true sense of community; people interact, and you can’t find the same sense of community anywhere else.” You can tell Ken has a great love for the City of Owen Sound, and we’re certain it will show in his Real Estate career.
