Woodturning: The Kaleidoscope with Carl Durance - 2 Day
A kaleidoscope is comprised of 3 basic components; an eyepiece, a barrel containing a mirror system, and an object cell. Let master woodworker Carl Durance show you how to make your own! In this 2-day workshop,each participant will have the opportunity to make each of these components, primarily from wood, plus the mirror system including cutting of the mirrors, and, learn a bit of the optical science behind the magic of the kaleidoscope.
Topics will include: - safety - operation of a lathe - tool selection - sharpening - design considerations - finishing
Each participant may choose to make an optional egg‐scope, a small egg‐shaped kaleidoscope, for an additional material fee to cover the egg‐scope kit and turning blank.
This is a two day workshop. Each day will begin at 9:00 am and end at around 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at Intersections Wood Collaborative at 299 10th Street E., Owen Sound.
Basic woodworking skills required, no turning skills necessary.
A materials fee: of $30.00 (plus optional additional $35 for egg‐scope project) is payable to instructor at the beginning of the workshop.
