River District Core Community Clean-Up with Safe n' Sound
Safe n Sound has been committed to ensuring our downtown community is a health space for all. Every year we help facilitate community clean ups amongst community partners. This year with the introduction of our NRT Team, our team has been busy supporting our downtown core by responding to calls requesting cleaning up garbage and debris throughout the River District between thaws.
With the final spring thaw and thunderstorms, we have noticed an increase in debris along our downtown streets and riverbanks - this includes harm reduction supplies; which, we recognize as a specific health risk that deserves a focused, community-wide response.
To address this, Safe n Sound has scheduled three upcoming Community Clean Up Dates. We invite your team and community members to join us in helping maintain a healthy and safe downtown core and harbourfront for our community.
These are "pop-in" events—community members are welcome to join for as much or as little time as they have available. Every bit of help makes a difference!
- Thursday April 2 from 3PM-5PM where we will be focused along the East Harbourfront Wall. We invite community members to join us behind Wholesale Club.
- Wednesday April 8 from 11AM-1PM where we will be focused on the Downtown Core. We invite community members to join us starting at City Hall.
- Sunday April 12th 12-3PM again focused on all of Downtown Core and West Harbourfront.
- Please note, we would be happy to have community members from organizations willing to take lead roles at one of our 7 key focus areas. If interested, please reach out and we can connect in advance - poster of areas attached.
Provisions Supplied:
We will have high visibility vests, wagons, gloves, and supplies for waste removal. Note - our wagon supply is limited so we invite others to bring some as well.
Public Health has ensured we have specialty tools for sharp removals for broken glass and potential paraphernalia.
Safe n Sound will supply training for those who may not have experience in sharp removals
- trust us, it's as simple as "gloves + tongs + hard container"
How to Find us:
If you are arriving after the start time, look for the high-visibility vests worn by our Safe ‘n Sound crew throughout the downtown and harbourfront areas. We will have gloves and safety supplies on hand for all participants.
We look forward to working alongside you to keep our community healthy and safe
