Community Screening of Award-Winning Documentary "Israelism" at Owen Sound Library
A local peace-promoting organization is inviting the public to a film screening on Saturday, February 1 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm at the Owen Sound Library Auditorium. This event, part of the Learn About Palestine series, will feature the award-winning documentary Israelism, followed by questions and constructive conversation with members of Palestine Solidarity Grey Bruce. Snacks will be provided and donations are warmly welcomed. This marks the fifth event in an ongoing series aimed at educating the local community about Palestine and fostering mutual understandings about the history of the region and the situation today. The group’s mission is to advocate for peace and justice while creating spaces for dialogue and learning in the Grey Bruce region. The featured documentary, Israelism, released in 2023, offers a groundbreaking perspective on the experiences of young Jewish Americans. and the deeply personal and often challenging journeys these individuals face as they question the long-standing belief that support for occupation and war is an integral part of Jewish identity. Israelism has earned critical acclaim across North America, receiving awards at prestigious festivals such as the Arizona International Film Festival, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, the Big Sky Film Festival, and the Chicago Palestine Film Festival. Its thought-provoking narrative invites viewers to reflect on complex issues of identity, human rights, and advocacy, making it a must-see for anyone interested in these important topics. The screening will be followed by a discussion to allow community members to explore the themes of the documentary further and discuss how they relate to the broader movement for peace and justice in the Middle East. Palestine Solidarity Grey Bruce states that events like the film screening are essential for creating a more informed and compassionate community. By learning together and engaging in open dialogue, we can contribute to the global call for an end to violence and oppression and work towards lasting peace in the region. All are welcome to attend this event. Admission is free. For more information, e-mail palestinesolidaritygreybruce@gmail.com or follow us on Facebook at Palestine Solidarity Grey Bruce.
